Our society is in such a state of moral degradation where cases of eve-teasing and molestation are almost treated in jest.It may be fun for some but what a young mind,who goes through such moral indignition ,suffers,is beyond comprehension of most culprits and also those who support the culprit.Majority will still say that what was the need for girl to raise voice for such a minor offence,specially when a senior police officer was involved.The girl should have known better that she is living in a shameless society which works only on basis of power,caste and rule of law is only for poor,hapless citizens.The DGP/DIG,whatever this man Rathore was, was more useful to CM,ministers,bureaucracy than the poor,14 year-old girl.So,it served them well to protect this monster who thought since he had government in pocket,he could put goons after the family,falsely implicate her brother in false cases,render her father homeless and put entire government machinery to his ill-use.
But even in such a situation,there were many heroes who did their job in all honesty and deserve all kudos for their determination.First were the victim's friend and her friend's parents,Mr Anand Prakash,and his wife.They fought her battle in courts when girl's own family had to go into hiding for the fear of Rathore.Then,the retired DIG of Haryana,Mr RR Singh, who submitted his report in 3 days in 1990 inspite of strong pressure on him by Rathore as well.It was only on his recommendation that a formal chargesheet was lodged in the case.Hats off to him for his grit and determination.Even today,17 years after he has retired, he has come out in full support of the girl.Then,vigilant media,which is leaving no stone unturned to bring about delayed justice to the girl by starting an informed campaign throught the country and last but not the least,people of this country deserve to be complimented for rising in one voice in support of the girl.I believe time has come that laws be changed,justice delivered fast as the whole aim of putting fear into the minds of such perverts is defeated if verdicts come after 19 years.Justice delayed is justice denied.Who knows if Ruchika had got such support and justice done 19 years ago,she would have been alive and kicking as one amongst us.May her soul finally get some peace.
