We have been reading lot on global warming and its likely impact on climate change but few realized that change on climate would be so swift as we are seeing now.Even in India,we are seeing hotter and longer summers, winters are shorter and monsoons are very erratic. This climate change is being observed all over the world including places as far-off as Antartica and Greenland. Most of the damage is attributted to increased carbon emissions from China and India, which have seen massive industrialization in recent past and are home to almost half of humanity. As a result, agricultural output is suffering due to massive crop damage and most forecasts predict a bleak outlook for farm production which is already being seen in unprecedented rise in prices of food items. On the other hand, first threat is to coastal cities like Mumbai,New York and Shanghai which are threatened due to rising sea levels.Developed countries have sensed danger and are pressurising India-China to adopt greener technologies to reduce global emissions but these two countries are asking for access to such technology as well as compensation for cost involved in shifting to those but whatever has to be done,is to be done fast.Just a couple of years ago, this disaster was said to be 100 years away but now,2060 is predicted to be the year of doom and going by the pace of events, disaster may strike much earlier. It is in the interest of present and future generations if nations of the world find a solution to this vexing problem before it is too late as it is already very late in the day.
