One witnessed another gem of an innings from the great Virendar Sehwag yesterday in Mumbai.Although bowling attack was not really world class and pitch benign but still to score 284 runs in less than a day is still Bradmanesque. The innings was studded with 40 fours and six sixes and was mainly chanceless.In the end,one could not but stand up at the genius of the man.
Test cricket is one of the rare games where result has to be generated in a given period of time otherwise you are not declared a winner even if you are one run or one wicket way and here Sehwag is unparalleled.One would be foolish to compare him with Sachin who has more solid technique and has been more consistent than him.But even Sachin would agree that the way Veeru dominates and demoralises the bowlers on his day is without precedent.
It is a shame that Veeru could not get to his third triple hundred which would have made him the first batsman in the history of game to do so,a feat which even the great Don Bradman could not achieve.
Many an experts argue that only if Veeru would be more selective and be more careful in his attitude he could achieve greater heights but that is where i beg to disagree.I believe it is his carefree and fearless attitude that he is able to achieve what no one else has ever has.Three cheers to Veeru.
